The shortest trip ever... erratum
.. was probably the one on Thursday, and one of the better decisions of the last week.
After a rough night, we were facing the long stretch from Arbatax to La Caletta (Siniscola) my homebase. Not is this with 43nm a really long daytrip, taking at least 8 hours, but with 15kn of wind and cross see (is that an english word?) it would have taken 10 to 12.
So after turning around the beautiful Capo Bellavista with it's lovely lighthouse on top, we had to do this. You can not break it up, cause in the long bay of Cala Gonone, with all it's caves and steep coast and cliffs, lies just one small marina, not suitable for bigger sailboats.
Passing the picturesque rocks of Isole Oligastra, the new windforecast came in (lamma.rete.toscana.it) and it was clear, that today is not the best day for doing this.
We turned around and after just one mile we arrived at the Marina Santa Maria Navarresse-Baunei.
Which brings me back to rating a marina.
After this experience, i finally decided to give Del Sole in Cagliari just 2☆.
Not only came the marinero in a RIB to the entrance, was super helpful and friendly, but the marina itself was just a dream.
A small Café, excursion-offices, clean and spacious toilets and showers, this was having it all...
So after just a bit over one hour we called it a day!
Just before a thunderstorm passed through... we didn't care... we sat in the Café, freshly showered at a delicious breakfast with croissants and toast.
The rest of the day we spend in one of the plenty bars at the beaches, or talking to our neighbours, a couple from south of Vienna, same street as my friend Andy and his father. Well in Austria we say: Die Wöd is a Kuhdorf... meaning you always meet sb, who is just 1 handshake away... they have been across the atlantic with their Bavaria 38 !! Ocean, hit by Covid-quarantine in the Caribbean, being attacked by Orcas in Gibraltar, and still having the spirit to go on another 1yr-trip around Europe. It's quite funny to see, that most of the crews you meet are here on a long run.
The night was so quiet, that Barbara got annoyed by the ticking of the clock on the wall🙃
The forecast did materialise mostly, but the wind was just a bit too little and a bit to much from the north to set sail.
I tried it anyway... a couple of times...
60° angle, 10knots, sail goes up, just to get it down again 10 minutes later... and repeat.. some call me impatient, i call it enthousiast 😇
Seven hours after the start we finally passed Capo Comino, which we saw in front for the last 5 hours or so.
Finally after 9 hours we moored in LaCaletta. Flawlessly.
So the last sailing day was not great, but we had 3 great days on the way up.
Barbara slowly coming to terms with the Amel, thanks to all the comments we get.
So all the storms have sailed....
for now... tomorrow 5-6bft... perfect terms to go kiting again after such a long time.
Yes, the boat is big enough to carry that around too!!
Sunday, i will change crew, the LOST Crew is meeting up again, for the 10-yrs-cruise.
I will swap to german for this, as the blog goes directly on the website (www.lostcrew.at), but google translate will do a good job!
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed, happy to get some comments!
Fair winds
Bernhard
